Another day, another zoo. This is our 4th zoo in the past month and a half, and I can attest to the fact that zoos smell the same on every continent.
The most surprising thing about the zoo here is that several types of animals are uncaged and have free rein of the grounds. My thoughts on the subject are this: mutant-like half-domesticated animals should not be roaming freely near my 3 year old.
While there, we walked through the standard exhibits; reptile house, giraffes, lions and tigers and spent some time watching the polar bear swim. They had 5 different llama habitats, so I gather that llamas must be pretty inexpensive on the list of zoo must-haves.
Against my better judgment, we bought a bucket of animal food, and ended up tossing kibbles to many of the creatures. Most snubbed our green kibble in favor of the other stuff in the bucket. Judging by the rotund pigeons and ducks, none of the animals are underfed.
The zoo playground was fantastic, and I foresee us spending a lot of time there in the near future. The tree house and slides were very difficult for a certain little guy to leave behind, but I promised we'd go back. Next time we visit, we're getting him the "Hippo Meal." Sort of like a happy meal, but muy grande.
