Recently, our church held a Blessing of the Animals during a regular Sunday service. When I saw the advertising, I just assumed that after the service people would bring in their pets to be blessed. But this is Miami, and strange things are always afoot at the Circle K.
Picture a church sanctuary. Now include about 20 dogs, large and small; even one in the pulpit. Then add in a few cats for good measure. (Cats were required to be caged.) All was fine for a good portion of the hour, but at some point, when the choir hit some high notes, there was barking and howling and a possible dog fight. And it all kind of went downhill from there. And it smelled, well, like dog.
After the service, as per usual, we headed over to the reception area to chat and refresh. Much to our surprise, they had treats for humans and pets. I don't know how I feel about having a bowl of cat food next to a bowl of chips. Hopefully no one grabbed the wrong chow.
Though we didn't bring Memphis, (he's 14 and is a grumpy old man) it really was a nice idea to include pets, and the service was lovely. I hadn't realized until that Sunday that our congregation was full of so many animal lovers!
Mmmm, cat treats and salsa.
Is this seat taken?
