The Panama Canal

One of my favorite books is Love in the Time of Cholera. When our ship neared the shores of Panama, the scenery looked exactly how I had pictured the book's setting. But with less cholera.
The canal is a pretty incredible structure, and was something we've had on our visit list for a very long time. I can't believe we got to see it and experience the locks!

As our ship was making its way through the locks another ship, full of containers, was on the opposite side going through the process in reverse. This took place in the early morning, so we were still able to disembark and spend the day in Panama, going to the Gatun Locks and on a jungle excursion.

Two boats at different stages in the lock system.

Visiting the Gatun Locks.
