The Conch Republic

Soon after we arrived in Miami we planned a trip to visit Dry Tortugas National Park. We ended up canceling because that date became the weekend that Hazel came to live with us. This still needed to be checked off our Florida Bucket List so I rescheduled and we went down to Key West a few weekends ago.

Dry Tortugas is a chain of 7 small islands about 70 miles off of Key West and is accessible only by boat or plane. We considered taking the ferry, however, the sea plane arrives hours before it, offering plane passengers the the unique opportunity to have the park all to themselves. The park offers incredible snorkeling/diving and is also home to Ft. Jefferson, a fortress built in 1826.

Spending another weekend in Key West was the added bonus to this excursion. We shared an apartment with friends and had a fantastic time checking out restaurants and watching the kids play.
