Andes Lake Crossing

The crossing is a bit more involved than riding a boat for an hour or two. Because the lakes aren't actually connected, several bus rides in between boat rides are required. Getting from Bariloche to Chile in one day would have been a 9+ hour experience; not the best idea with an energetic 4 year old. We opted to stop in Peulla and spend the night there before taking the last (longer) boat and bus ride to Puerto Montt.

The photos do not do this area justice. We were just blown away by the scenery! The water was an amazing shade of clear green, and as we got into Chile, we cruised by several active volcanoes.

Our stop in Peulla ended up being our favorite place on the trip. It's a tiny little village with only a hotel and a small building which housed the customs office, a school and a hospital. There were more sheep and llamas than people. It was the quietest place we've ever visited! (At least until we showed up.) The trees and vegetation were so lush and green, and, surprisingly, very Teague-proof.

The next afternoon, we took a boat through Todos Los Santos lake and got to see Mount Osorno Volcano up close and personal. We were excited to see the Puerto Montt area since we researched it for our cruise this past December. It was supposed to have been stop on our cruise itinerary, but because of the bad weather we experienced at Cape Horn, the boat was delayed two days, and the stop at Puerto Montt was ultimately cancelled.
