The 36th anniversary of the military coup was a few weeks ago. Argentines are extremely passionate and still very angry about the dictatorship that was in place during that time. So they did what they do well, they protested. Because the following week was also the 30th memorial of the Falkland Islands War, (Argentina invaded the islands and lost) we knew the protest would be more of a catch-all gathering for protesting and memorializing many things. Kind of a Memorial Day/Labor Day/Gay Rights/Communist Party/Mothers of the Disappeared combined.
So let me set the scene up for you. We are knowingly headed to a protest. The subway lines are mostly shut down, in anticipation of said protests. In the subway crowd, we spot a little person. He's carrying a really big neon green flag. We figure he is headed where we are, so we follow him through several subway stations, up and down flights of stairs and around several blocks until walked right into this:

This particular protest was peaceful, with participants swigging mate tea (see the man above, right corner, cuddling his mate thermos) while waving flags. Watching all of the different government groups come together to march was a pretty big deal. We are witnessing a very interesting time in Argentina's history.
