No Sleep Till Brooklyn

We arrived back in Miami last night after an amazing week up North. Our New York City trips are becoming an annual event, much to my delight! This year, we opted to stay in Brooklyn, at Fort Hamilton. Along with attending the most fabulous hipster wedding of the century, we explored the heck out of NYC's most populated borough.

As we rode the subway and walked around Brooklyn I began to notice a very specific dress code which came in the form of Buddy Holly glasses, rolled up jeans, floral prints and beards. Tons of ridiculous beards. Almost every male in the vicinity looked like the photo below, but with ironic Hawaiian shirts. This was our first brush with real-life hipsters. Can't say there are too many in Miami!

Along with hipsters, the area is chock-full of amazing restaurants, outdoor cafes and so many things to do, all with the beautiful Manhattan skyline in the background. 

On our first full day, we headed straight to the New York Transit Museum, where Teague got to play in old NY subways and buses and learn about electric and third rail power. The museum is hands-on interactive learning fun, complete with real turnstiles and ticket booths. 

 

This time, we saw the Brooklyn Bridge from the Brooklyn side, despite some protests from a certain grumpy kid. Before we left, weather forecasters were predicting heavy rains, however, we lucked out and had fantastic weather!

We also explored the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn, where we were staying and, coincidentally, the area where Sean's grandparents once lived. It is a quaint little neighborhood with tidy walk-ups and mom and pop stores and restaurants. Each day on our walk to/from the subway, we passed a beautiful old church called St. Patricks. We later learned that it was the very church where Sean's granny and granddad were married!
