South to drop off, moron!

How did we ever live without internet access? It took entirely too long to get ours set up at our place, longer than it would take in, say, a third world country, but we're connected and now I can finally post some new entries.
Teague officially started "real" school, and we're pretty surprised at how much homework comes home every night with a kindergardener! Teague is in a class full of Spanish speakers, including his teacher, so his transition from all Spanish to broken English has been relatively easy.

His Argentine kindergarden was small, with only 40 Kinder students total. His new school is K-8th, and is just plain huge in comparison. Walking into the cafeteria brought back memories. Mainly smelly memories. Public schools still smell exactly the same, by the way, like a bouquet of old socks, sour milk and green beans.

We arrived early on his first day to turn in his forms and found that the four streets surrounding the school were heavily patrolled with "Traffic Enforcement" rent-a-cops. Strange. The school office has 4 parking spaces, and because they were full, we tried to park at a nearby apartment complex. As Sean pulled in, an angry "enforcer" literally ran toward the car shouting. Sean immediately told him he'd move the car, and I got out and began walking Teague to the office to start the registration process. However, the problem wasn't where we had parked, but that "dropping off" wasn't allowed. Apparently you aren't allowed to drive within the vicinity of the school and stop or even slow down the car and let anyone out. Never ever. Officer Friendly threatened a ticket if Teague and I didn't get back in the car. Great introduction to the school, dude.

After registration, a badged escort took us to meet his teacher. As we opened the classroom door, the fire alarm went off. I kid you not. We did finally get to talk to her after the chaos subsided, and she introduced Teague to the class. His class has 19 kids, actual desks, and lots of books and fun activities.

He came home excited, telling me that his school "even has a hospital in it"; the nurse's office made quite the impression. He received his requisite smiley face stickers for the day and got to pick out something from the class Treasure Box. He selected a red hair bow...for me. He is the sweetest kid ever!
The first week was a success and he is enjoying school. He loves the playground and is making new friends. Since I'm without a car for the time being, Teague is riding the bus every day and he loves it! The driver drops off and picks up from our driveway and drops the kids at the front entrance of the school, with no hassles from the rent-a-cops. Win-win!
