Puerto Rico-It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

A few months ago, we booked a trip to Puerto Rico. It was booked for the first week in May, mostly to celebrate our anniversary. The timing also seemed right, our foster/adopt classes would be complete, and we'd be starting up the licensing process. It was to be one last family trip as a party of 3. 

Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men...they often include taking a toddler you barely know to Puerto Rico. So, 4 days after our girl was placed with us, we and our non-refundable tickets took a little trip.

 I just want to say for the record that taking a toddler that you just met anywhere is kind of asking for it, but we did. And boy did we get "it". This wasn't the greatest trip we've ever taken, but we certainly had some fun while we were there. We all got close very quickly, and actually, having Sean around full-time for those days was great, not only for the extra set of eyes and hands, but so that we all got to know one another. Good times. So many tantrums. Some were even hers.

Things started out rather badly. We spent almost 5 extra hours at the airport due to delays. If you've ever wondered what the opposite of fun is, this was pretty darn close. I had been worried about the flight more than anything, and our girl's first time on an airplane went extremely well, and thankfully, both kids slept through the 2am arrival and an unexpectly long drive to the hotel.

But, bad beginnings have good endings! The rest of the trip was chock-full of kid-friendly stops, and of course, the beach. We don't think that our girl had ever been to a beach, and it was fun to see the experience through her eyes.

I think we'll hold off on traveling for a bit, though, unless there's a fantastic Kid's Club involved!
